Spain hands over HAWK air defence battery to Ukraine

Spain has announced that it will provide Ukraine with a full battery of the HAWK air defence system.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the announcement was made by Defence Minister Margarita Robles at a Ramstein meeting in the presence of the President of Ukraine.
Robles announced a significant package of military aid that Spain will send to Ukraine ‘in the coming weeks’.
‘In response to President Zelenskyy's request for air defence systems, Minister Robles announced the immediate delivery of a complete HAWK battery, including six launchers, also provided by Spain and already deployed in Poland,’ the communiqué said.
The minister also spoke about the preparation of the next batches of aid and projects launched by the Spanish defence industry in continuation of the security cooperation agreement between Ukraine and Spain, and noted that Spain is stepping up its participation in the EU mission to train the Ukrainian military.
