NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized the importance of sustained support for Ukraine from partners and allied countries. He is convinced that the reliability of the West's defense assistance depends, in particular, on how long Russia will continue its military aggression.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the NATO press service.

During his visit to the United States and a speech at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., the NATO Secretary General answered questions from journalists, including those about American aid to Ukraine and the upcoming NATO summit next month.

According to Stoltenberg, Ukraine will be one of the most pressing topics at the event.

"After Russia's full-scale invasion, NATO allies provided an unprecedented level of support. This was essential for Ukrainians to fight back and survive as a sovereign nation. But this winter and spring, we have seen serious delays and gaps in support, which have had consequences on the front lines," he said.

Stoltenberg emphasized that this should not be allowed to happen again.

"That is why I expect that at the Summit, Allied leaders will agree that NATO will lead the coordination and delivery of security and training assistance to Ukraine," the Secretary General said.

He added that it is for this purpose that he has proposed a long-term fund "with fresh funding every year."
