Nov 6, 2024

There is a risk that US support for Ukraine will decrease after Donald Trump's election victory. Europe seeks to maintain transatlantic commitments.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, quoted by SVT.

Christersson congratulated Trump on his victory in the presidential election, but noted that he could not help but notice disturbing trends, including polarization in American society.

The Swedish prime minister also warned of the risk of strengthening protectionist policies (support for domestic producers), which poses a threat to Sweden.

According to Kristersson, there are also risks for Ukraine after Trump returns to the White House.

“Another risk that exists is a decrease in commitments to Ukraine. We take into account the fact that the United States is currently the largest country providing military assistance to Ukraine. We appreciate it, we are grateful for it, we do not take it for granted. We will do everything possible to emphasize our desire to maintain our transatlantic commitments,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that he did not want to jump to conclusions.

“We have been preparing for different scenarios, different developments for a long time, and we are well prepared for this,” Kristersson said.
