Switzerland to provide assistance to Ukraine in demining

Jun 22, 2023

The Swiss Federal Council on Thursday announced a new humanitarian aid package worth 1.2 million Swiss francs (1.22 million euros) to help demine the territories.

This is stated in the message of the Swiss Federal Council.

Humanitarian aid for demining will be provided by the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).

The Swiss non-governmental organization Digger Foundation, which is engaged in humanitarian demining, has handed over a remote-controlled demining machine to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

In addition to the machine, DDPS is providing Ukraine with a truck, trailer, and spare parts for three years, and Digger Foundation experts will conduct demining training for local Ukrainian authorities.

"The entire aid package, worth about 1.2 million Swiss francs, will be financed by a loan to the Armed Forces to upgrade personal equipment and machinery," the Federal Council said in a statement.

It also reminds us that Switzerland, together with the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining, has also been conducting humanitarian demining training for experts from the Ukrainian civilian authorities since the summer of 2022.
