Jul 10, 2024

The Baltic States are planning to disconnect from the common power grid with Russia and Belarus in early 2025. Instead, they will synchronize with the European energy system, ENTSO-E.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Lithuania.

According to the ministry, Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis, Latvian Energy Minister Kaspars Melnis, and Estonian Energy Minister Kristen Mihal met in Jurmala.

They stated that preparations for the synchronization of the Baltic countries with the ENTSO-E continental European power system are going according to plan.

"In the coming weeks, the Baltic transmission system operators will inform the other parties of their joint decision not to extend the contract with BRELL (the electric ring of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania - ed.)," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry clarified that after that, the Baltic States will test an isolated system and synchronize with the networks of continental Europe in February 2025.
