The European Union should create its own security organization. It should be in addition to NATO.
This was stated by the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Mecola, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing her interview with elMundo.
She emphasized that the EU should always be stronger, more consistent and more effective.
“I say the same thing when it comes to creating, for example, a real security and defense union. A union that we have been demanding for a long time, which would complement NATO and not compete with the EU,” she said.
Mecola noted that Europe is on the verge of an extremely unstable situation due to the full-scale war in Ukraine unleashed by Russia. She emphasized that the European Union should be prepared for anything, regardless of who enters the White House after the US presidential election.
“In January, there will be a new president, and therefore a new administration. There will also be a new Senate and a new Congress, which are our colleagues when it comes to voting on financial assistance to Ukraine. I hope we can continue to work together,” she added.-
