Aug 16, 2023

President Maia Sandu has called Russia the main source of instability for the country, and Romania a key ally.

She said this at a meeting of Moldovan ambassadors organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, NewsMaker reports.

Sandu spoke about the main areas of diplomatic activity that are important in the short and medium term - Moldova's accession to the EU and the promotion of the country's role as a factor in maintaining security in the region.

"Russia will continue to be a source of instability for us. You have seen how this year Russian forces tried to destabilize the situation in Moldova, up to and including an attempt to overthrow the constitutional government. On the other hand, we are fortunate that Romania supports Moldova. It is an important defender that supports our foreign policy," she added.

At the same time, Sandu noted that now is a crucial moment for Moldova that will determine the country's future.

"The results we achieve now will determine how our country will develop. We all know how serious the current challenges are, because the war, unfortunately, is ongoing, and we see no signs that it will end soon," she added, emphasizing that Moldova will continue to support Ukraine.
