President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has emphasized the importance of achieving unity on further steps towards peace in Ukraine, stressing that freezing the conflict will lead to new wars.

She expressed this opinion during the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.

"The greatest desire is to be independent and live in peace. They want missiles to stop hitting their cities. They want to live free from fear. Furthermore, they want their children to be safe without constantly worrying about the next air raid," said von der Leyen.

She called on the world to think about whether it is right that a larger country can attack a neighboring country and take its territory.

"The answer is, of course, no. This is spelled out in the UN Charter. Therefore, it is very important that we reaffirm our adherence to this charter and reiterate our commitment to adhere to its principles. Freezing the conflict while foreign troops occupy the territory of Ukraine is not a solution. It will only lead to further wars of aggression," the President of the European Commission emphasized.

Von der Leyen also noted that Ukraine's allies and partners need to support a "comprehensive, just, and lasting peace" that will ensure the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. She emphasized that the inviolability of all borders and the sovereignty of all states are at stake.
