Following Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's visit to Vietnam last week, the US, and Vietnam have been actively discussing ways to develop their strategic partnership.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink met with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on June 21, the government said in a statement. The diplomat's trip to Vietnam took place after Putin's visit drew criticism from the US," the message reads.
The US confirmed its readiness to support a strong and prosperous Vietnam, emphasizing the importance of the country's role in international and regional forums. According to Kritenbrink, the relationship between the United States and Vietnam has never been so strong and deep.
The Vietnamese minister emphasized that the US has always been a strategically important partner and expressed readiness to jointly promote a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Earlier, the US expressed displeasure with Vietnam's decision to host Vladimir Putin, especially after his visit to North Korea, where Russia received a promise of support in the war against Ukraine. In September, the two countries upgraded the relationship to a strategic partnership, the highest level of diplomatic ties between the US and Vietnam.
