Washington and more than 20 states are deploying the military to protect election commissions and government buildings from possible protests and violent riots by Donald Trump supporters after the presidential election.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to AP and Reuters.
More than 20 states have asked to send National Guard members to Washington, D.C., if necessary and if requested in the weeks following the election and on the eve of the inauguration.
The District of Columbia has not yet made an official request for the deployment of Guard troops. However, government officials are discussing and preparing for the possibility that the Capitol could be rocked again by violence related to the certification of election results by Congress on January 6 and the inauguration two weeks later.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, November 4, Jean-Paul Laurenceau, head of the National Guard Bureau's Future Operations Division, said it was not clear how many guardsmen would be needed this year.
He said it will depend on what the District of Columbia wants, but noted that the National Guard Bureau and the states are waiting for a request for assistance.
