U.S. Senators Call for Recognizing Russia as a State Sponsor of Terrorism

Jun 21, 2024

The signing of a partnership agreement between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) should be an impetus for recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Voice of America, which quotes US senators from both leading parties of the US Congress.

According to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, in addition to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, dictator Vladimir Putin's visit to the DPRK was another challenge. According to him, now is "the right time" to pass a bill recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

"The fact that he (Putin - ed.) was brave enough to sign a defense deal with North Korea... one of the most repressive regimes on the planet means that we have lost our deterrence... I urge the administration, given what Putin did yesterday, to go all-in and recognize his regime for what it is: a state sponsor of terrorism," the senator said.

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal added that the overall agreement between Russia and the DPRK is "deeply frightening" and hostile to the United States and justice in the world. He also supported the recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and added that a terrorist country deserves to be "in this little selective club of killers."
