Ukraine and Poland to issue coins to mark Independence Day

Aug 10, 2023

The National Bank of Poland and the National Bank of Ukraine will jointly issue collectible coins on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day.

This was announced on Thursday by the National Bank of Poland on its website.

On August 24, both national banks will issue silver collectible coins "Friendship and Brotherhood is the Greatest Wealth."

The coins, designed by Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Taran, will be available in both Poland and Ukraine.

"The joint issuance of silver coins of 10 zloty and 10 hryvnia denominations is another proof of the fruitful cooperation between the National Bank of Poland and the National Bank of Ukraine. Both coins form a set, and their design creates a composite whole, forming the shape of a heart," the statement said.

The coins will be made of Ag 999 silver, each weighing 31.1 grams. The total output of the sets will be up to 10 thousand pieces, half of which will be produced and sold in Poland and half in Ukraine.

In Poland, the coins will be available at the cash desks of regional branches of the National Bank and in the Collector online store. In Ukraine, they will be distributed through official distributor banks and the NBU's online store.

This year's issue is the second joint initiative of the NBU and NBP. In 2012, the two banks issued silver collector coins on the occasion of the 2010-12 UEFA European Football Championship in the same way as now - in the form of a set.

The National Bank of Poland plans to transfer the proceeds from the sale of the silver collector's coin set "Friendship and Brotherhood is the greatest wealth" to Ukraine in the form of non-refundable humanitarian financial assistance.
