Zelensky answered whether China could mediate between Ukraine & Russia

China can mediate peace between Ukraine and Russia only if it adheres to the position on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the interview of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with the Korean Chosun Ilbo.

According to the president, China is trying to walk a tightrope somewhere on the outside between the West and Russia.

"It is true that China does not directly support Ukraine's position. As for China's own peace initiative, we have made it clear that we appreciate any efforts by other countries, but our own peace formula, our initiative is fundamental. Because this war started in Ukraine and is going on here," he said.

Zelensky believes that China can only be helpful in achieving peace if it takes a clear and firm position that Russian troops must withdraw from all of Ukraine.

As a reminder, China has stated its intention to be a peacemaker and released a so-called 12-point "peace plan" to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Beijing called for a cease-fire and peace talks, but did not mention the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
