Finland has offered the North Atlantic Alliance to deploy a new military base on its territory. In particular, Helsinki could become a base for large NATO reconnaissance drones.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Yle.
According to the Finnish broadcaster, Pirkkala is the most likely location for the new base, although three other alternative sites are being considered.
Currently, NATO drones are based in Italy, but they have already been used in Finnish airspace to collect data on the eastern border.
According to the publication, plans for a new base are at an early stage, but the alliance is actively seeking opportunities to expand its drone presence in Northern Europe.
The final decision on the location of the base is expected to be made next year.
