Brejon explained that Macron not only congratulated Trump on his election victory, but also discussed the topic with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“They know each other, they have been working together for 4 years, and the president (Macron - ed.) explained during this Ministerial Council that our role was not to comment on the choice of sovereign nations, but it was necessary, on the other hand, a European strategic awakening,” the speaker explained.

She noted that the President emphasized that France must raise its voice in Europe for more sovereignty in order to maintain unity.

“Europeans must take responsibility. What we do not do ourselves, no one will do for us. This applies to defense, trade and agriculture. And that the temptation should not be for “every man for himself”, not for bilateral relations, but for a coordinated European strategy,” the speaker quoted Macron as saying.
