U.S. not preventing Ukraine from developing long-range strikes

Dec 7, 2022

The United States is not making attempts to prevent Ukraine from developing its own long-range capabilities, which could lead to strikes on Russian territory.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said this, according to CNN.

"We are not working to prevent Ukraine from developing its own capabilities," Austin said Tuesday.

His comments came after a U.S. State Department official suggested Tuesday that Ukrainians were behind recent drone strikes on two Russian bases and explicitly accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of committing war crimes targeting civilians and infrastructure.

The U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland stated that "no one has claimed responsibility" for the drone strikes, but added that "the Ukrainian people are incredibly innovative; they make their own drones, aerial and naval, which are incredibly effective.
