The United Nations is concerned about Donald Trump's victory in the US election. There are several reasons for this.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Reuters.
The main concern of the UN is whether Trump could cut funding for the United Nations. In addition, Washington may withdraw from key international agreements and institutions, including the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement.
If the United States retreats from the UN mandate, it could open the door for China. Sources note that China could “present itself as the number one supporter of multilateralism.”
Currently, the United States is the largest donor to the UN, followed by China. Washington accounts for 22% of the UN's core budget and 27% of the peacekeeping budget.
It is noted that President Joe Biden's administration owes $995 million in the UN's core budget and $862 million in the peacekeeping budget. If the United States cuts funding for the organization, basic work will become impossible.
The team of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres believes that next year will be extremely difficult.
