The US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland also announced intention to impose new sanctions.

In a speech at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, she noted that the United States will present a "devastating package" of sanctions against Russia in the coming days, which will include "hundreds and hundreds and hundreds" of new restrictions.

According to Nuland, the new measures will, in particular, be aimed at "closing the loopholes" in the existing sanctions imposed due to the military actions in Ukraine and preventing their circumvention.

She added that some of the measures will target those whom the US considers responsible for Navalny's death in the Polar Wolf colony.

"I will wait and let the White House announce it (the new sanctions package - ed.)," Nuland added.

Also according to the White House website, on February 22, US Presinden Joe Biden met with Yulia and Dasha Navalnaya in San Francisco to express his deepest condolences on the terrible loss of the politician's death in Russian prison.

Biden expressed his admiration for Navalny's extraordinary courage and his legacy in the fight against corruption and for a free and democratic Russia where the rule of law applies equally to all.

The President emphasized that Alexei's legacy will live on through the people across Russia and around the world who mourn his loss and fight for freedom, democracy, and human rights.

"He (Biden – ed.) affirmed that his Administration will announce major new sanctions against Russia tomorrow in response to Aleksey’s death, Russia’s repression and aggression, and its brutal and illegal war in Ukraine," the statement said.
