Starmer, addressing the party's supporters in London, commented on the victory with the phrase "We did it! Change begins now."

He added that such a mandate of trust from voters also means a great responsibility.

Starmer said that it was time to "put politics back in the public service" and that his government would make efforts to make a difference.
