Stoltenberg hopes for Ukraine's membership in NATO within 10 years

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg hopes that Ukraine will join the defense alliance over the next decade.

He said this in an interview with the DPA agency, excerpts from which were published by Bild, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

Stoltenberg was asked about the possible expansion of the Alliance in the next ten years.

"I very much hope that Ukraine will become an ally," said Stoltenberg, who is leaving the post of secretary general in the fall.

Shortly before the NATO summit in Washington, Stoltenberg also called for even more military assistance to Ukraine.

"The stronger our support is, the sooner this war can end... The more we commit ourselves in the long term, the sooner the war can end," he said.
