Jul 3, 2024

On Wednesday, the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Russian Federation adopted a joint statement on the termination of the participation of the Russian delegation in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA). This was reported by the telegram channel of the Federation Council.

"For many years, the OSCE PA has been ignoring the problems associated with the violation of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine and the Baltic States, freedom of communication and education in the mother tongue, and does not pay attention to the blasphemous glorification of the Nazis and their henchmen, harassment, and murder of journalists who take a position different from that of Brussels and Washington," the document says.

The head of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, was instructed to send a telegram about the decision to the OSCE PA session, which is taking place these days in Romania.

The Russian parliamentarians called Romania's “demonstrative” refusal to grant visas to members of the Russian delegation to participate in the annual session of the OSCE PA in Bucharest the “final point” in the situation.

Romania had previously denied visas to members of the Russian delegation because of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
