The Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to a quarter of citizens being forced to leave their homes.

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense on Twitter.

As noted in the report, on June 29, the Ukrainian authorities announced that 139,000 citizens have been evacuated from the war zones in the Ukrainian-controlled territories of Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions since July 2022 in accordance with the state of emergency law.

This is only part of a larger displacement crisis in Ukraine. The UN estimates that 6.3 million Ukrainians remain refugees and more than 5 million internally displaced.

"With a pre-war population of 44 million, a quarter of Ukrainians remain forced from their homes as a result of Russia’s invasion," the British Ministry of Defense said.
