Germany believes that Ukraine should join NATO in the future. But Russian dictator Vladimir Putin wants to prevent such membership.
This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock at a press conference in response to a question from an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.
The RBC-Ukraine correspondent asked Burbock to clarify Germany's position on Ukraine's accession to NATO amid statements by Chancellor Olaf Scholz that an invitation to join the Alliance is impossible until the war is over.
The correspondent also mentioned rumors that the chancellor's entourage is considering the option of “Finlandization” of Ukraine (its neutral status), and an invitation to NATO could ruin such plans.
