Hungary and Ukraine are negotiating a comprehensive agreement on cooperation between the two countries. However, the clause on Ukraine's membership in NATO should not be included.
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mate Pácsolai, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Magyar Nemzet.
According to Pácsolai, an important part of a comprehensive agreement on cooperation with Ukraine should be “the restoration of the rights of the Hungarian minority.”
“At the same time, during the negotiations, we made it clear to the Ukrainian side that Ukraine's intention to join NATO cannot be part of this agreement,” he added.
A representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that the Hungarian government's position on Ukraine's accession to NATO has not changed. Budapest believes that this would allegedly trigger the outbreak of World War III.
