Jul 1, 2024

Joe Biden's family on Sunday urged him to stay in the presidential race and discussed whether to fire his top aides after the US president's poor performance at the debate.

CNN learned about this from Biden's advisers, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

Biden's family - First Lady Jill Biden, son Hunter, and grandchildren - gathered at the presidential residence of Camp David for a previously scheduled meeting and urged the president to continue his re-election campaign. One adviser described the family members as offering their "unqualified support."

According to one of the advisers, the family members were clearly frustrated with the team that was preparing President Biden for his debate with Trump. They discussed whether to fire someone and whether to make changes to the campaign staff.

Biden is known for his loyalty and protection of close advisors and does not like to fire aides. As of Sunday, it did not appear that any major staff changes were coming to his campaign.

The family meeting came as Biden and his campaign faced an avalanche of calls for the president to drop out of the race after Thursday's CNN presidential debate.

According to one of the advisers, the discussions focused on how members of the "Biden clan" could help the president, not on whether he should reconsider his candidacy.
