Poland wants to limit Belarus' transit revenues from China to the EU

Jul 2, 2024

Warsaw has decided to introduce very detailed control at a major customs terminal on the border with Belarus.

This was reported by RMF FM radio station.

The point in question is Malaszewicze (Terespol Commune, Bielski Poviat) in the Lubelskie Voivodeship.

According to Polish diplomats, this should be an extremely tough step against Minsk.

The lion's share of cargo from the east, including major overland shipments from China, goes west through the so-called "dry port" Malashevichi. By rail, they travel to EU member states and to the port of Gdansk, from where they are sent to other destinations. This transit is a significant source of revenue for the Belarusian regime. Restricting it could have many consequences.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is counting on Beijing's pressure on Minsk to force Lukashenka to fulfill Polish demands.
