Confidence in Zelenskyy in Europe and the United States has declined

Jul 2, 2024

Confidence in President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy among the population of a number of European countries and the United States has decreased compared to last year.

This is according to a Pew Research Center poll released on July 2.

More than two years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Zelenskyy's ratings are mixed among the 35 NATO and non-NATO countries that took part in the survey. On average, 40% of adults in these countries believe that Zelenskyy will make the right choices on world affairs, while 46% do not.

Majorities in only seven countries are confident in his ability to navigate international affairs. And trust in him has fallen significantly in several countries in Europe and North America.

In Europe, trust in the Ukrainian president varies considerably from country to country. Eight out of ten adults in Sweden trust Zelenskyy, the highest level of trust in a Ukrainian president; about the same share in Hungary does not.
