Jul 3, 2024

The situation in the energy system remains difficult. To eliminate the deficit, Ukraine is negotiating with its partners, Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk said on the air of the United News marathon on Monday, July 1.

According to him, it is technically possible to import 1.7 GW now. We want to increase it by 500 MW.

"Negotiations are currently underway to increase this figure to 2.2 GW of installed capacity," Kolisnyk said.

He added that now the power engineers are focused on a repair campaign to return to the system those generating capacities that can be restored and repaired to increase their own production.

Earlier, Ukraine used to import no more than 27,00 MWh per day from Europe. But since June 10, this figure has been repeatedly broken.

In May, Ukraine almost doubled its electricity imports and imported a record 448,000 MWh. The largest volume was received from Hungary - almost 46%.

Earlier, the Energy Ministry warned Ukrainians of a difficult winter ahead. Over the past few months, Ukraine's power system has suffered the worst damage since the start of the full-scale war.
