May 28, 2024

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Kroo said that the 30 F-16 fighter jets that the country will provide to Ukraine can only be used on Ukrainian territory. According to him, the same applies to other weapons that the Belgian side will provide as part of the security agreement.

The Belgian Prime Minister said this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels on May 28.

“Everything included in our agreement can be used by the Ukrainian army on Ukrainian territory,” De Kroo said, noting that these conditions are spelled out in the bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and Belgium.

Today, on May 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Kroo signed a bilateral agreement on security guarantees that will be in effect for the next 10 years. According to the document, Ukraine will receive at least €977 million in military aid from Belgium this year. It also provides for the supply of 30 F-16 aircraft by 2028, the first of which will be delivered this year.
