A fire broke out on the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, which is currently under repair in Murmansk.

According to propaganda media, the fire has already been extinguished.

It is noted that since 2018 the cruiser stands in Severomorsk for scheduled repairs. In December 2019, there was a fire on Admiral Kuznetsov, which killed two people and injured 14 others. The ship was scheduled to be handed over to the Russian Navy in 2022.

What makes Admiral Kuznetsov unique?

The ship is the only aircraft-carrying cruiser of the Russian Navy, the flagship of the Navy and the Northern Fleet. It was built in Mykolaiv and launched in 1985. 28 aircraft and 24 helicopters can be based on the cruiser. The basis of the air wing is formed by deck fighters Su-33, MiG-29K, and MiG-29KUB.

In addition, Admiral Kuznetsov has missile armament and is the only aircraft-carrying ship in the world that can be held in the Black Sea under the Montreux Convention.

As a reminder, in April this year, the Ukrainian side announced a strike on the Russian Moskva cruiser with two Neptun anti-ship missiles. As a result of the attack, the ship sank.

According to experts, the loss of the Moskva cruiser was the most expensive during Russia's war against Ukraine. Its residual value was about 750 million dollars.
