France clarifies Syrsky's statement on sending instructors to Ukraine

May 27, 2024

The French Ministry of the Armed Forces has stated that the deployment of French military instructors to Ukraine to train military personnel is still being considered.

The ministry provided this comment to the AFP news agency.

Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, said that France is ready to send its instructors involved in training the Ukrainian military directly to the territory of Ukraine, and the first of them will soon come to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of Ukrainian training centers.

The French defense ministry's commentary recalls that military training in Ukraine “is one of the areas that were discussed” after the conference in support of Ukraine convened by French President Emmanuel Macron in late February.

“As in all other areas discussed on this occasion, we continue to work on this issue with the Ukrainians, in particular to understand their exact needs,” the ministry added.
