Germany will allocate an additional 1 billion euros to support Ukraine

Nov 11, 2022

The German government has decided to allocate an additional one billion euros from its budget for 2023 to support Ukraine - the money will be used to protect against Russian cyber attacks and the collection of evidence of war crimes.

It is reported by Reuters.

Part of the funds will be used to support groups that record evidence of human rights violations and war crimes, in particular those found after the withdrawal of Russian troops in Ukraine. Funding will also go to support civil society, in particular, to protect journalists in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine.

The German government has decided to increase funding for Ukraine amid a debate over whether Berlin should increase military aid to Kyiv. The Green Party, which is in the government coalition, is the most vocal advocate.

"Ukraine's budget makes it clear that our support goes far beyond important and necessary arms supplies. We are investing heavily in peace in Europe and Ukraine," said German Greens MP Robin Wagener, who heads the Ukraine group in the Bundestag.
