The Bundestag budget committee on 24 May approved the allocation of 525 million euros for the purchase of 18 Leopard 2 tanks of the modern A8 version to replace the vehicles transferred to Ukraine.
This was announced by the speaker of the Social Democratic Party of Germany on budget issues Karsten Klein, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to Tagesschau.
"The decision made today by the Bundestag is an important brick in strengthening the defense capabilities of the German Armed Forces," Klein said.
It should be recalled that as part of the "tank coalition" in March 2023, Germany transferred 18 Leopard 2 A6 tanks to Ukraine. Slovakia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada and other allies also supplied tanks of this type to the AFU.
