Kremlin wants to persuade West to push Ukraine negotiate with Russia

Nov 18, 2022

Moscow admits the possibility of negotiations with Western countries. They hope that this will help bring Ukraine to the negotiating table with Russia.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TASS.

"Previous experience with Kyiv shows that without talking to the West, Kyiv's position is very volatile. Therefore, certainly, let's say, the guiding, which reinforces and strengthens the element of such communication could also be the communication with the West. Because the directives that come from there are very scrupulously fulfilled by Kyiv," Peskov said.

As a reminder, following Russia's annexation of Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories, President Volodymyr Zelensky ruled out negotiations with the current Russian leadership.

The head of state adopted a decision of the NSDC that it is "impossible to hold negotiations" with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, according to the US media, US and EU officials regard the winter period as an opportunity for Ukraine and Russia to negotiate.

Meanwhile, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that Ukraine itself should decide when to start negotiations with Russia.
