German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has admitted that the supply of weapons to Ukraine is delayed, but assured that the capacity of the German defense industry will be increased as soon as possible.
This was reported by DW.
"We have a well-known problem: the defense industry is not keeping up with the demand in certain areas," Pistorius said.
He added that this applies to both ammunition and air defense systems.
According to the minister, the defense industry is increasing capacity "wherever it can," but "it's a matter of speed, which you can't have unlimited influence on".
The head of the German Defense Ministry explained that it takes time to open a plant and build up the necessary stocks to be able to produce quickly and smoothly.
As an example, Pistorius cited the production of ammunition for the Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, which Germany had to restore.
According to him, "although it was done relatively quickly, it still took six months".
