Poland launches investigation into grain import violations

Apr 18, 2023

The Prosecutor's Office of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship in Rzeszow has launched an investigation into alleged violations during the import of Ukrainian grain.

This was reported to PAP by the spokesperson of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszow, Anna Bernat-Lozhanska.

According to the representative of the Rzeszow prosecutor's office, the investigation concerns a fraudulent scheme in which the offenders unfavorably disposed of the property of Polish feed and food producers, "misleading them about the country of origin of the grain and hiding that it was imported from Ukraine as technical grain".

The issue of misleading the customs authorities by using false documents, including tax invoices, is also being investigated.

"At this stage, we can talk about several exposed Polish business entities that act as affected parties. We are waiting for further announcements in this case," said Bernat-Lozanska.

According to Lukasz Lapczynski, spokesman for the Polish National Prosecutor's Office, there are six more preparatory proceedings concerning actions related to the import of grain and rapeseed from Ukraine. All of them will be transferred to the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszow for further investigation.
