The Polish Arms Agency signed a contract on Tuesday to purchase Swedish Saab 340 AEW early warning aircraft.
This was announced by Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak.
According to Blaszczak, the purchase of Saab 340 AEW aircraft "will strengthen NATO's eastern flank and make Poland's airspace safer." He did not specify how many aircraft Poland will receive.
The Saab 340 AEW&C is a long-range radar detection aircraft capable of monitoring airspace within a 450-kilometer radius at an altitude of over 20,000 meters.
Poland started talking about the purchase of the Saab 340 AEW back in May, shortly after the remains of an unidentified military object were found in Zamość, Poland, about 15 kilometers from Bydgoszcz, which was hit in December.
