Russia deploys Bal missile systems to the border with Ukraine

Jun 14, 2023

Russian occupiers are deploying Bal coastal missile systems to the Ukrainian border. The complex can be used to strike land targets. It is armed with X-35 and X-35U missiles, which, after being modernized in 2021, increased their range from 260 to 500 km.

The Air Force Command admits that it will be difficult for the military to respond to attacks from Bal systems, as the missiles' flight speed is very high.

It should be noted that Bal is a Russian coastal mobile missile system with an X-35 anti-ship missile. It is designed to control territorial waters and strait zones; protect naval bases, other coastal facilities, and coastal infrastructure; and protect the coast in dangerous areas of possible landing.

According to the National Resistance Center, the occupiers moved these coastal complexes from Krasnodar Krai to Bryansk Oblast. In general, the installation is designed to destroy ships, but, according to the CNS, due to the lack of suitable missiles, Bal was equalized in range and ability to fire at land targets with the Bastion BRK, which uses the supersonic Oniks missile.

It is also claimed that as a result of the modernization carried out in 2021, the Russians were allegedly able to increase the range of the X-35U from 260 km to 500 km. One launcher carries up to eight missiles.
