The Czech Republic wants to buy about 70 new versions of Leopard tanks

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Czech Republic has authorized Defense Minister Jana Černohová to negotiate the possibility of joining the purchase of Leopard tanks in the new 2A8 version, which is planned by Germany.

The Czech Republic will negotiate with Germany on the purchase of about 70 tanks, the cost of the tender will be about 10 billion Czech crowns (more than 420 million euros). The tanks can be delivered by the end of 2030.

The Czech army is still armed with a small number of modernized T-72M4CZ tanks. In recent months, it has provided Ukraine with several dozen units of the older T-72 version.

In return, Germany has pledged to provide Prague with 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks and one Bpz3 Büffel repair and recovery vehicle. So far, Berlin has delivered three tanks.
