According to him, the defense departments of the two countries are already discussing the parameters of resuming dialogue.

"The Chinese military is ready to carry out exchanges and cooperation in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as to promote the reliable and stable development of contacts between the defense departments of the two countries," the spokesman said.

Beijing reportedly suspended all high-level communications with Washington last August in response to then-Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, which angered China.

During the year, the administration of President Joe Biden managed to agree with the Chinese side on the renewal of most formats of high-level dialogues, except for military-to-military communication, which should be a safeguard against accidentally provoking an armed conflict. Beijing put forward as a condition for the resumption of such a dialogue that the American side would lift sanctions against the then Minister of Defense of the People's Republic of China, Li Shanfu.

In October, Li was removed from the post of minister, but a new head of the defense ministry in China has not yet been appointed.

After the agreement of the leaders of the two countries, Joe Biden and Xi Jinping, during the summit in San Francisco in November, on the renewal of communication between the military, the American side declared the readiness of the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, for negotiations, as soon as Beijing names the name of the new minister of defense.
