The United States has made it clear to the German government that it supports supplies of German Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine if Berlin decides to do so.
Two sources with access to confidential information from the two countries told the German publication FAZ.
According to the sources, Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the American president, had already informed Chancellor's foreign policy adviser Jens Pletner about this in October.
The source noted that Sullivan told Pletner by phone that the U.S. would welcome German delivery of the Leopard 2, but it would have to be done on German initiative.
It is clarified that the U.S. has not asked Germany to make such deliveries.
