Trump campaign files complaint against Harris over money transfer

The headquarters of US presidential candidate Donald Trump has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing them of violating campaign finance laws.

This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda with reference to The New York Times.

The complaint was filed by David Warrington, chief counsel of the Trump campaign, and concerns the transfer of money from the Biden Foundation to Harris.

It comes after Biden's team changed the name of its committee to “Harris for President” on Sunday following the White House chief's announcement that he was dropping out of the race.

The complaint filed by the Trump campaign with the Federal Election Commission states, among other things, that Harris is not yet an official candidate - this will happen at the Democratic National Convention - and that Biden, having declared that he would not run, is unable to keep the contributions he received.

Warrington accused the campaign financier and Harris of “attempting to defraud” the election commission by using their forms to “rename and repurpose” the committee, demanding that the case be referred to the Department of Justice.

In the letter, he argued that the commission should resolve the matter quickly and that Harris “is in the process of committing the largest campaign finance violation in American history and is using the commission's own forms to do so.”

A spokeswoman for the Election Commission said that the agency cannot comment on pending matters.

Harris's campaign spokesman, Charles Lutwak, pointed to the huge amount of money raised for the campaign after Biden endorsed her candidacy.

“Republicans may be jealous that Democrats are determined to defeat Donald Trump and his MAGA allies, but frivolous lawsuits - like the ones they've filed for years to suppress votes and steal elections - will only distract them while we register volunteers, talk to voters, and win this election,” he said.
