Ukraine should determine the terms of peace with Russia

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, Emmanuel Macron said this at a press conference in Washington.

"We will never urge Ukrainians to make an unacceptable compromise," the French President said when asked about the possibility of ending the war.

He stressed that Ukrainians "defend their lives, the state and our principles".

"If we want a lasting peace, we must respect the right of Ukrainians to independently decide on the time and conditions of negotiations on their territory and future," the French leader noted.

According to him, while the negotiations have not started, France "has increased military, economic and humanitarian assistance".

Macron added that the financial and military support of Ukraine by the United States is important for the whole of Europe and the world. "If we imagine that we will leave the country and respect for these principles to the mercy of fate, there will be no stability in the world. It is very important that you are so committed," he said.
