The deputy commander of the Svoboda battalion, National Guard lieutenant Volodymyr Nazarenko said that Ukrainian troops hold the key route to and from the city of Bakhmut.
He said this in a commentary to CNN, Ukrinform reports.
"The Armed Forces of Ukraine hold the Bakhmut-Konstantinovka highway, it is quite stable. The situation around Bakhmut and its outskirts is very similar to hell, as it is on the entire eastern front," Nazarenko said.
The Bakhmut - Kostyantynivka road is important for supplies to the city. The lieutenant also noted that there were no "tactical changes" on the Ukrainian side, adding that Ukraine is holding the line.
"The enemy is looking for weaknesses, trying to distract our forces by fighting, pulling back our reserves, combining different methods and tactics. But they are failing," he said.-
Nazarenko rejected speculation that Ukrainians might withdraw from the city.
"There is no withdrawal. On the contrary, new reserves are coming to hold the line. The entire combat zone is under chaotic shelling, but there is communication with the city, there are routes that are not blocked," noted the lieutenant.-
