It is impossible to operate the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant at full capacity under current conditions. This was stated by SNRIU Chairman and Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine, Oleh Korikov, on the air of We-Ukraine TV channel.

“Currently, all six power units of Zaporizhzhia NPP are in a state of cold shutdown. Together with our partners from the IAEA, we managed to press the situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP so that all six power units, without exception, were put into cold shutdown. If we can even talk about a safe state under the occupation that is currently taking place,” Korikov said.

At the same time, he emphasized that a cold shutdown is the safest condition of ZNPP power units.

“As an engineer, I can tell you that it is not possible to operate Zaporizhzhia NPP at full capacity under current conditions. There are no basic essential components on which the safe operation of any power plant is based. That is, there is no water supply, the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant is destroyed, and there is no reservoir where water can be taken in sufficient quantities to operate the nuclear power plant at full capacity.

The second is connection to the power grid. As you know, Zaporizhzhia NPP is connected to the power grid of Ukraine, and under normal conditions, power was supplied via 10 power lines of 330 and 750 kW. Currently, Zaporizhzhia NPP is connected to two lines - one main line and one backup line.” SNRIU Chairman emphasized.

He also reminded of the extremely high level of militarization of ZNPP: the occupiers keep weapons, explosives, and heavy equipment at the plant.
