"A year ago, Zmiinyi Island was liberated. By controlling it, the Russians sought to gain complete dominance in the sky in the South and constantly threaten Odesa. But the (Ukrainian) Defense Forces put an end to the vain hopes of the orcs," he wrote.

According to the Ukrainian Intelligence, the liberation of the island was "a complex, multi-level, and risky special operation".

"Special forces of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the SBU Special Operations Center "A", Air Force aviators and sailors of the Ukrainian Navy, soldiers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, military engineers, Bayraktar operators – all demonstrated the highest level of coordination and victory," the intelligence noted.

On June 30, 2022, the Russian occupiers left Zmiinyi Island. After another successful operation by Ukrainian troops, the enemy hastily evacuated the remains of the garrison. As a result, this allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to completely liberate Odesa region from the Russian occupiers.

We told about the history and strategic meaning of the island in our article The Mysterious Snake Island.
