Mongolia cannot arrest Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who is visiting the country, because it is dependent on imports of Russian energy products.

This was stated by a spokesman for the Mongolian government, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Politico.

According to him, the country is in a situation of energy dependence, and this complicates the possibility of Putin's arrest under the ICC warrant.

“Mongolia imports 95% of its petroleum products and more than 20% of its electricity from our immediate neighbors (Russia and China - ed.), which has previously suffered from technical disruptions. These supplies are crucial for our livelihood and the livelihood of our people,” the spokesman said.

He noted that Mongolia “has always adhered to a policy of neutrality in all its diplomatic relations, as confirmed by official statements.”

The government spokesperson also added that Putin's visit is in line with the historical precedent of the heads of state jointly celebrating the anniversary of the Soviet and Mongolian victory over Japan in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol in 1939. That is why the Russian dictator came to Mongolia.
