The CPJ explains what is behind Putin's talk of “peace”

Sep 5, 2024

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine to surrender. And his talk of peace is just a trap.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Telegram of the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCI), Andriy Kovalenko.

According to him, the concepts of “peace” and “surrender” should not be confused, because Putin needs Ukraine's surrender, because it is Putin who claims the territories of Ukraine and “included” them in Russia.

“We need peace, but a fair peace, according to international law, which Putin is not ready for. All the talk about Istanbul 2022 will not return the destroyed Bakhmut, so he is lying. He needs our surrender. And talks about peace are traps, just like more than 100 years ago, Russia wants to divide us from within around different visions so that we stop resisting,” Kovalenko said.

Unfortunately, he emphasized, Putin still needs the whole of Ukraine.

“The terms 'peace' and 'surrender' have nothing in common. Putin is talking about the desire for Ukraine's surrender,” the military stated.
