American Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine in the near future.
This is reported with reference to a statement by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin during today’s Ramstein meeting.
He also noted that the US contribution to military assistance to Ukraine "has been strong and remains so".
"So, we will work closely with our Ukrainian partners to ensure that all the assistance we provide to Ukraine is used effectively and appropriately. We are talking about Abrams tanks that are about to be on the battlefield in Ukraine," Austin said.
Initially, Washington announced the transfer of the M1A2 version, but later, due to long delivery times, they wanted to provide the M1A1 version.
In March, Pentagon officials reported that the transfer of the tanks was to be completed by the fall of 2023.
In July, it became known that, according to Pentagon sources, Ukrainian military personnel undergoing training in the operation of US Abrams tanks at a base in Germany could be ready for combat in a few weeks.
