Biden: Ukraine will become a NATO member, but not during the war

Jul 13, 2023

U.S. President Joe Biden has confirmed that he does not believe it is possible for Ukraine to join NATO during the war.

Biden said this at a press conference in Helsinki on Thursday, according to a Yevropeiska Pravda correspondent.

"No one can join NATO while the war is ongoing, where NATO countries are under attack, because it guarantees that we are at war, that we are in a state of World War III," Biden said.

He also made it clear that the question now is not whether Ukraine will become a NATO member, but when it will happen.

"So it's not about whether they should join or not. It's about when they can join. And they will join NATO," the US president said.

Biden also said that President Putin could stop the war tomorrow.

"Putin has already lost the war. Putin has a real problem: how does he get out of here, what does he do? He can end the war tomorrow, he can just say: I'm out... There is no way for him to win the war in Ukraine," the US president said.
